RCR was founded in 1969 by Richard Childress, who had previously raced in NASCAR as a driver. Childress began his racing career in 1969, driving his own car in the NASCAR Cup Series. The team may have struggled in its early years, but it began to find success in the mid 1980s with legendary driver Dale Earnhardt.
Earnhardt re-joined RCR in 1984, and he quickly became the face of the team. Over the next decade, Earnhardt and RCR won six Cup Series championships, 3 times back to back in 1986 and 1987, 1990 and 1991, and 1993 and 1994.
In addition to their most famous driver, Richard Childress Racing has entertained with other excellent drivers over its years. including Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Tyler Reddick, and in 2023 Austin Dillon and Kyle Busch racing for the team in the NASCAR cup series.
Across all series they have managed 200 wins and 16 championships and won the Daytona 500 Flagship race 3 times.

Structure
Richard Childress is still the owner and CEO of RCR, which is based in Welcome, North Carolina. The team has a large staff, including a number of engineers, mechanics, and support personnel. The team fields cars in the Cup Series, Xfinity Series, and Truck Series,
RCR has a long-standing partnership with Chevrolet, which provides engines and other support for the team. The team has also had a number of sponsors over the years, including Caterpillar, Bass Pro Shops, and Dow Chemical.
Over 350 people work at the RCR campus in Welcome, North Carolina to build race cars for all three series.
Accomplishments
The team has also won a number of prestigious races, including the Daytona 500, the Southern 500, and the Coca-Cola 600. In total, RCR has won over 200 Cup Series races, making it one of the most successful teams in the sport.
it has 16 championships across the Cup, Xfinity and Truck series and was actually the first to win the championship for all three of these series.
However although NASCAR is where most ran fans may know the team it is not the only racing they are involved in with their subsidiary ECR Engliens, competing in the IMSA Waether Tech Sport car Championship and providing the engine for Cadillac Dpi-V.R.
